We assess each workplace’s unique hazards, and create a customized medical surveillance (screening) program for each employer. Based on the needs of the specific workplace, surveillance may include review of medical history, physical examination, and chest x-ray. Biomonitoring with tuberculosis (TB) tests, blood lead levels, and cholinesterase levels are commonly performed.
Examples of employees who receive medical surveillance include:
- HAZMAT team members
- Peace officers with exposure to clandestine laboratories
- Pesticide workers
- Workers with exposure to lead/heavy metals
- Outdoor workers at risk for heat-related illness
- Divers
- Health professionals
- Laboratory workers
