Staying Healthy at Work During Flu Season

Close contact with co-workers can make staying healthy a challenge during flu season.  Getting a flu vaccine every year is the best way to prevent flu.  The CDC recommends these other important actions to protect yourself and others from getting and spreading the flu: (https://www.cdc.gov/nonpharmaceutical-interventions/workplace/employees.html)

1. Stay home when you are sick

2. Avoid close contact with people who are sick

At least 3 feet

3. Cover your coughs and sneezes

Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, and then wash your hands

4. Wash your hands

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water

5. Clean frequently touched surfaces  

Desks, doorknobs, railings, computer keyboards, and phones should be cleaned frequently.  Soap and water are sufficient to remove flu virus.  Bleach-and-water solution or disinfectant with a label that says “EPA approved” for killing bacteria and viruses are also effective.
